Virginia Lee McDiffett

February 21, 1923 ~ May 9, 2018 (age 95)

Council Grove - Virginia Lee (Swenson) McDiffett, 95, of Council Grove, Kansas passed away May 9, 2018 at Diversicare of Council Grove. Virginia was born February 21, 1923 in White City to Elmer and Esther (Johnson) Swenson.

She was a graduate of Alta Vista High School and attended Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS.

Virginia married Kenneth McDiffett on April 21, 1944 in her parents’ home in Alta Vista. She enjoyed family, counted crossed stitch projects, Royals baseball, making pies, watching college basketball and helping others. She was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alta Vista. She also served in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and Vet’s Wives organizations in Alta Vista. She also became a passionate advocate and fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association.

Virginia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and sister-in-law.

Virginia is survived by four children: Jeffrey McDiffett of Lawrence, Timothy McDiffett and wife Mary of Anchorage, AK,  Shelley Lee and husband Bill of Omaha, NE, Kelly McDiffett and wife Sandi of Council Grove; sisters-in-law Beverly Swenson of Broomfield, CO and Orella Gfeller of Leonardville; 16 grandchildren, 2 step-granddaughters, 24 great-grandchildren, and 6 step-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Kenneth, daughter Cindy Rella on December 28, 1955, and a brother Charles Swenson.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday, May 13, 2018, from 2:00 – 4:00 at Zeiner Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, May 14th, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alta Vista. Interment will follow at Alta Vista Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).  Contributions may be sent in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, PO box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.
