Council Grove - Ross Duane Worley, 91, passed from this life to his heavenly home on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Diversicare of Council Grove.

He was born October 23, 1926 at home near White City, the son of Norman and Victoria Worley. He graduated from Dwight High School in 1944.

He grew up a hard working farm boy and continued with a love for farm life and an appreciation for manual labor and craftsmanship throughout his life. Ross married his wife, Joan Bolte in 1948. From that time to present they made their home in Council Grove. He was fortunate to have his loving, caring wife of 69 years to take care of him his last few years, which enabled him to remain at home virtually his entire life.

Ross was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Ralph and Ree, sisters: Reba, Ruth, and Phyllis, and grandson Jason Worley.

He is survived by his wife Joan, sons Michael and wife Charlotte, Olathe, David and wife Connie, Eldorado, daughter Amy and husband Jim Winter, St. George; six grandchildren: Sara McCue and Eric Worley (Barbie), Olathe, Andrew Worley (Ashley), Maize, Amanda Holtzinger (Merek), Augusta, Megan Castrop (Nate), Olathe, Brent Winter (Emily), Lenexa; thirteen great grandchildren: Kirstin, Kayla, Samantha, Alyssa, Jessica, Emma, Mila, Brooklyn, Lincoln, Ray, Eloisa, Everly, and Jo; and two great-great grandchildren: Thaddeus and Lydia.

Ross worked as a machinist for ten years, then as a serviceman, and later drove a semi-truck for Fairmont Foods for 23 years. He was also a Montgomery Ward catalog agent where members of the family worked.

He was forced to retire in 1984 due to rheumatoid arthritis and his participation in organizations and volunteer work began. He was always faithful to his family, serving his parents and in later life performed many special projects for his children and grandchildren.

He served on the library board as president, was active in many projects with Kiwanis, and really enjoyed delivering meals for the senior center for a number of years.

He was a member of the Council Grove Methodist Church for about 57 years. As an adult, he displayed and gave his confession of faith with being baptized in 1961 and continued to work out his faith by serving and caring for those in need.

Ross was a proud, strong, energetic man who cared deeply for all of his immediate and extended family. Not only was he a great provider, he never tired of helping others. Throughout his life he studied, read, and educated himself in a variety of fields. He became his own craftsman, plumber, electrician, accountant and financial advisor, including designing, planning and building his own home. He was famous for letting his opinions be known and wrote numerous letters to the editor. His family will miss his guidance and wisdom.
