Randy Ross

March 24, 1952 ~ March 12, 2019 (age 66)

Council Grove - Randolph Stephan Ross, of Council Grove, Kansas, was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2017 and died at home surrounded by his family on March 12, 2019. He died one week shy of 67 years old.

He was the son of Raymond and Madeline (Warneke) Ross. Randy attended Council Grove High School and graduated in 1970. Shortly thereafter, he was employed by Union Pacific Railroad and retired in 2011, with 38 years of train service.

Randy married the love of his life, Anna Peralez on July 23, 1983.  They had two daughters, Sara and Stefani.

He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen.

Randy loved to fish and spent his free time with his fishing/railroad buddies telling tall tales. He has often been described as a “jack of all trades” and knew a little something about how to fix everything. Randy was gifted at greeting and welcoming people. He never met a stranger, and was always there to cheer someone up or talk to them about their day. In addition, Randy and Anna spent 4 months at the Hope Lodge in Omaha, NE and they were both dubbed “the ambassadors” by fellow residents during their stay receiving cancer treatment. Randy had a way of making friends with anyone. He is well known for saying, “If there’s anything you need please let me know” to every person he knew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Rick Ross, Joy Gay and Cheri Cameron.

Randy is survived by his wife; Anna, and two daughters; Sara (Kurtis Meierhoff) of Council Grove; Stefani (Martin Kreifels) of Omaha, NE; and 5 grandchildren; and sister Penelope Nelson (Bob); nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He will be sadly missed by all.

A Rosary will be recited at 6:00pm, Thursday, March 14, 2019, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with visitation from 6:30-8:00.  Memorial Mass will be at 1:00pm, Friday, March 15th, also at the Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow at Four Mile Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to ACS Hope Lodge of Omaha.  They may be sent in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, PO Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.
