Neva Parks

August 25, 1932 ~ July 21, 2018 (age 85)

Council Grove - Memorial services for Neva Parks, 85, who died of heart failure July 21, 2018, at Asbury Park Assisted Living, Newton, KS, will be Saturday, August 18, 2018, at 10:00 o'clock at the Wilsey Christian Church. Neva's desire to be cremated has been honored.

Born in August of 1932, at home at Diamond Springs, KS, she was a daughter of Jim and Edna Veal.

Her marriage to Don Peterson was December, 1950, at the family home at Wilsey, KS. They lived, farmed, and raised a family at Delavan, KS. Neva worked hard bringing up the children, growing and canning garden produce, sewing clothes for the family, and doing chores around the home and farm. She strongly encouraged her children to do well in school and to get a college education. She was a 4-H foods and clothing leader. She was a member of the Delavan extension homemaker unit, the Delavan and Wilsey United Methodist churches, Eastern Star and DAR. Neva worked many years in the business office of the Morris County Hospital and volunteered with Care and Share.

Through the years Neva enjoyed close association with her parents and sisters Evelyn and Marjorie. As a family, these close relationships created a system of support for all members.

Neva's faith in Jesus Christ was important in her life. She was baptized as a youth in the Wilsey Christian Church, and in their later years, she and John Parks, her recently deceased husband, attended that same church.

Neva had a spontaneous and adventurous spirit. Her many travels took her across the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean, England, France, Belgium, Germany, India, Guam, and Japan.

Survivors include a son, Marvin Peterson and his wife Carolyn, St. Louis, MO; and four daughters, Nancy Milledge, Clearwater, KS; Jan Troxell, Council Grove, KS; Bev Peterson, Port Orchard, WA; and Linda Lindquist and husband Ron, Osceola, NE; two sisters, Evelyn Richardson, Manhattan, KS, and Marjorie Gose, Wichita, KS; fifteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents.

Memorial contributions may be directed to USD 417 Educational Enhancement Fund, 17 Wood Street, Council Grove, KS 66846, or to the charity of one's choice.
