Mary Lou Svoboda

August 5, 1941 ~ November 9, 2018 (age 77)


Mary Lou (Weber) Svoboda, 77, Dighton/Herington, KS, passed away Friday, November 9th, 2018, at her
daughter's home near Bennett, CO. Mary Lou was born August 5,1941, at home near Maize, KS, the
daughter of Anthony "Tony" and Pauline (Strunk) Weber, both deceased.

Mary Lou Weber and John Svoboda were married June 7,1962, at St. Mark's Catholic Church, Colwich,
KS. John passed away January 14, 2015. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and
Robert Weber. She is survived by five children: Annette (Eugene) Wilson, Seneca, KS, Jane (Greg) Benz,
Bennett, CO, Cheryl Svoboda, Walla Walla, WA, Clare (Stu) Curtis, Panama City, FL, and Thomas (Teresa
Douthit) Svoboda, DVM, Junction City, KS. Other survivors include 18 grandchildren, 5 great
grandchildren, three sisters--Virginia Stump, Wichita, KS, Pat (Wes) Paulsen, Oshkosh, NE and Dorothy
Williams, Dawsonville, GA, two brothers--Charles Weber, Shawnee, KS, and Don (Jan) Weber, Wichita,
KS, and two sisters-in-law-JoAnn (Joe) Nowak and Delores Svoboda.

Mary Lou graduated from Andale High School in 1959, attended Sacred Heart College in Wichita from
1959-1962, and graduated from Kansas State University in 1973 in elementary education. She taught
elementary school for 35 years-3 years in Tribune, KS,1 year in Manning, KS, and 31 years in Healy, KS.
She enjoyed attending her former students' and grandchildrens' activities, caring for her grandchildren,
helping others, sewing, cooking, baking, reading, crosswords, Sudoku and playing cards. She was a
member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church, Dighton, KS.

A visitation and rosary will be held at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Pilsen, KS, on Thursday,
November 15 at 7 The funeral Mass will be Friday, November 16, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. also at Pilsen
with Fr. Brian Bebak officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Pilsen. Zeiner Funeral Home,
Herington, is assisting with arrangements. Suggested memorial contributions may be made to Father
Kapaun Guild, St. Theresa's Catholic Church of Dighton, KS or a library of your choice all in care of Zeiner
Funeral Home, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS 67449.
