Larry N. Kahle

April 11, 1941 ~ January 2, 2019 (age 77)

Larry N. Kahle, 77, most recently of Americus, KS, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at Reflection Living in Wichita, KS.

Larry was born April 11, 1941, in Fresno, CA, to Norman and Vivian (Pipes) Kahle. He graduated from Council Grove High School in 1959. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1960 and served in Greenland, then in the reserves, before being honorably discharged in 1963.

He married Jessie Olney on May 19, 1968, in Sedgwick, KS. She preceded him in death on February 29, 2008.

Larry worked for many years at IBP and Safeway Pet Food in Emporia, KS. He retired in 1997. He then drove a school bus for USD 251 North Lyon County for 12 years, retiring in 2010. After retirement, Larry fulfilled his and Jessie’s dream and became a fulltime RVer. 

For many years, Larry and his wife traveled all over the United States and Canada. He was a member of the Family Campers and RVers and Kansas Camper Association, and served in many leadership roles. He was also mayor of Americus in the 1980s and was an Americus volunteer firefighter. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his son, Robert (Amy) Kahle, of Gravette, AR; daughter, Peggy (Steve) Schremmer, of Wichita, KS; grandson, Daniel Kahle, of Pea Ridge, AR; granddaughter, Sara Kahle, of Gravette, AR; granddaughter, Jennifer Sayler, of Wichita, KS; granddaughter, Nicole Sayler, of Wichita, KS; grandson, Jacob Schremmer, of Wichita, KS; great-granddaughter, Ashlynn Grimmett, of Gravette, AR; brother, James Kahle, of Emporia, KS, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jessie Kahle, and a son, Michael Gail Kahle.

Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Sunday, January 6, 2019, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 7901 W. 21st St., Wichita, KS 67205, with Pastor Gary Brooks officiating. Burial/Celebration Camp Out will follow at in Council Grove, KS in April.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Larry’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Cancer Society, or may be designated for a memorial in Larry’s and Jessie’s names to be determined at a later date.
