John Hewitt

January 29, 1962 ~ September 28, 2018 (age 56)

Council Grove - John Christopher Hewitt, 56, of Council Grove, Kansas, passed away Friday September 28, 2018, at KU Medical Center.

He was born January 29, 1962 in Wichita, KS, the son of Jimmy Lee and Marla Joyce (Bass) Hewitt.  He graduated from Council Grove High School in 1980. John was united in marriage to Carol Lee Charboneau on February 28, 1981 in Council Grove. He served in the US Army from 1985 to 1988 and was stationed in New Ulm, Germany. He attended Manhattan Area Vocational College and became a licensed Mechanical Journeyman.  He worked in the construction and maintenance industry over the years for companies including Central Mechanical Construction, Roxco, Inc, and Kansas State University Division of Facilities.

John was an avid outdoorsman.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and just being outdoors.  John loved being a Papa to his grandkids and watching them grow. His favorite pastime was spending time with family and friends.

John was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his father Jimmy and mother-in-law Joyce Charboneau.

John is survived by his wife Carol, of the home; son Joseph Hewitt and wife Belinda, of Pagosa Springs, CO; daughter Jacquelyn Phillips and husband Ryan, of Callisburg, TX; grandchildren Aven Stueven, Reed Hewitt, Jorden Hewitt and Katherine “Katy” Phillips. Also surviving , his mother Marla Hewitt;  sister Mary Hewitt (Lee Garrett); and brother James W. Hewitt (Nicole Hobbs); father-in-law Donald Charboneau, all of Council Grove; numerous sister-in-law’s, brother-in-law’s, brother out laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. 

A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM, Thursday, October 4, 2018, with visitation from 7-8 PM, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, October 5th, also at St. Rose. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

The family wishes Memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Friendship Inn, in Kansas City, KS,  which is a hospitality house (which is ran on donations) for families with patients at KU Medical Center who are not children.
