Gary Eugene Hageberg

March 13, 1936 ~ April 21, 2018 (age 82)

BURDICK - Gary “Butch” Hageberg, 82, formerly of Burdick, died April 21st, 2018, at the Legacy of Herington.   He was born on March 13, 1936, at Burdick, the son of Olof and Velma (Richey) Hageberg.

Funeral services will be at 10:00am, Thursday, April 26th, 2018, at the Burdick United Methodist Church, with Rev. Sue Talbot, officiating.  Interment will follow at the Burdick Methodist Cemetery.  Serving as casket bearers are Phillip Hageberg, Steven Hageberg, Tray Hageberg, Trevor Hageberg, Kevin Dutton, Terry Dutton.  Honorary casket bearers will be Steve Deines, Dean Gutsch, Bruce Hedstrom, Dan Peterson, Roger Peterson, and Steve Schild. The family will greet friends Wednesday evening, from 6:30 – 8:30pm at the Zeiner Funeral Home-Herington.

He was owner-manager of the Burdick Meat Market for 59 years, and a supporter of FFA and 4-H. He liked his nickname and being associated with his work but he really enjoyed his annual New Year Eve’s parties at the store and being a part of an agriculture community. He was a member of the Burdick United Methodist Church and served in several different positions.  Many called him “the mayor of Burdick” and he was always available to serve homemade ice cream at the annual Burdick Labor Day celebration.  He and his wife were grand marshals in 2009.  When he was not busy in the community or mowing at the church, he would find a building that would need painted and he considered this relaxing.  He graduated from Diamond Valley High School.

He is preceded in death by a sister, Irene Ford; three brother in laws, Frank Ford, Jack Prendable, Bob Price, and his parents.

He was married to Marilyn Meierhoff on June 15, 1958, at Marion United Methodist Church. She survives at home in Herington.  He is also survived by a daughter Teresa Roberts (Kenneth) of Topeka; three sons, Daniel Hageberg (Darlene) of Burdick, Gene Hageberg (Shelli) of Cedar Point, TX, Mike Hageberg (Denice) of Burdick; two sisters, Marge Price of Atlanta, GA, Ruth Prendable of Lanham, MD; 5 grandchildren, Janine Hageberg (Nick Leon), Steven Hageberg (Samantha), Phillip Hageberg (Kana), Tray and Trevor Hageberg; and four great grandchildren, Ashlynn Hageberg, Loralie Leon, River and Hana Grace Hageberg.

The family requests memorials to the Burdick Methodist Church, or Burdick Relay for Life; and they may be sent to;  Zeiner Funeral Home-Herington Chapel, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS 67449-3038.
