Donald Eisenhut

November 15, 1927 ~ January 31, 2018 (age 90)

Dwight - Donald Wayne Eisenhut, 90, of Dwight, Kansas, peacefully entered into heaven January 31, 2018, surrounded by his family.

Donald was born November 15, 1927 in Alta Vista, KS to Gottlieb “Zeb” and Carrie (Smith) Eisenhut.  He started working at a very early age and found his calling in farming.

Donald was united in marriage to Lorene Litke on October 1, 1949 at White City, and enjoyed 67 wonderful years together.  They made their home in  rural Dwight, where they started a dairy, crop and livestock farm.  Donald was a dedicated farmer/stockman.  Throughout his life, no matter the weather, or whether he was ill or hurt, he managed to always be “up with the chickens” and ready to work. He was an old school farmer, where a handshake was his word.  Those that knew him could always count on getting a ribbing from him, as he did like to tease you a little.  That was Dad!  Family was the most important to Don.  He especially enjoyed aggravating and teasing his grandkids…..they loved their Grandpa!  He was so tickled when he became a great-grandpa.  One of his most favorite things to do was going to the Pizza Hut and Dairy Queen every Saturday and Sunday night in Council Grove.

Donald was confirmed in 1941 and became a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alta Vista.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two twin brothers, a sister, and his loving wife Lorene on November 17, 2016.

Donald is survived by his loving family, son Gary Eisenhut, of Dwight, daughter Deb Hewitt and husband Stan, of Alta Vista and son Terry Eisenhut and wife Julie, of Alta Vista; grandchildren: Jami Maike and husband Brian, of Manhattan, Dustin Hewitt and wife Brianne, of Riverdale NJ, Kari Eisenhut, of Overland Park, Shelbie Eisenhut and Chris Shade, of Alta Vista; great-granddaughters: Daisy Rae Shade and Jordyn Grace Hewitt.

At Donald’s request, cremation has taken place.  A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of visitation, the family requests condolences and cards be sent to 421 South 1200 Road, Dwight, KS  66849.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hand in Hand Hospice and may be sent in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, PO Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.
