Albert Leonard Morgan

January 24, 1925 ~ October 10, 2018 (age 93)

Council Grove - Albert Leonard Morgan, 93, passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Diversicare, Council Grove. He was born January 24, 1925 northwest of Alta Vista. Albert lived most of his life in the Moss Springs community before moving to Council Grove in 2010. He graduated from Alta Vista High School in 1943.

 Albert and family were involved with 4-H for many years. He attended the 22nd Annual National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago in 1943. In 1946 he won the Jimmy Fiddler Award for the top 4-H member in Kansas, allowing him the opportunity to visit both the national 4-H camp in Jackson’s Mill, WV and Washington, DC, serving as the 4-H representative for Kansas. He also helped break ground for the Rock Springs 4-H Center.

He was known for his raising, judging, and showing of livestock. Albert lived for 68 years at his beloved Hilltop Hereford Farm raising Hereford cattle and Poland China hogs. He often sold breeding stock and show animals to fellow 4-H members. Hilltop Hereford Farm hosted livestock judging contests during the 1970’s and 1980’s. For many years he served as a ringman at county fairs for beef and swine. Albert enjoyed taking Hereford tours across the Midwest and attended major livestock events across Kansas.

Albert was a 65-year member of the Alta Vista Masonic Lodge No. 357 and member of the Simpson United Methodist Church, Alta Vista. He sang with the choir and was a soloist at many funerals.

Albert loved sports and games of croquet. He enjoyed reading, sitting and watching the Kansas landscape, and visiting with friends.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Walter A. and Alice L. Brabb Morgan; brothers Howard (Mildred) and George (Muriel) Morgan; sister Ruth (Lawrence) Anderson; grandson Joseph Cornelius. Albert is survived by his wife, Gayla Meinhardt Miller, whom he married February 15, 1969; daughters Cheryl Thomas, Olathe; Sharon (Gary) McIntyre, Jamestown, NY; Jennifer (Jay) Peery of Mission; son Michael Miller, Alta Vista; grandchildren Justin (Tamara) McIntyre, Pawleys Island, SC; Jessica Andreas, St. Joseph, MO; Micheal Wayne Miller, Deshler, NE; Susan (Eric) Looper, Lee’s Summit, MO; Ashley Evans, Council Grove; Blake and Kate Peery, Mission; great grandchildren Cora McIntyre; Audrey and Alex Andreas; Micheala and Sawyer Miller; Jessica, Savannah, and Brooke Evans and Alexis Mangus; Kinley and James Looper.

A funeral will be held at the Simpson United Methodist Church, Alta Vista, on Saturday, October 27 at 11am. Visitation will be at 10:00am prior to service. A graveside service will be held afterwards, followed by a luncheon. Burial will be at the Moss Springs Cemetery.
